Tori Spelling reflects on “DWTS ”elimination and 'unlikely' friendship with Anna Delvey: 'The big word is just gratitude'

The "Beverly Hills, 90210" star, who was voted off of "Dancing With the Stars" this week, vowed she'll still "rumba all day and night long" under her team name "DWTS: Dancing With Tori Spelling."

Dancing With the Stars lost two queens during its first elimination on Tuesday, but they each gained in the other an "unlikely" friend. Beverly Hills, 90210 star Tori Spelling and Anna Delvey — the fake heiress and convicted high-society scammer (whose real last name is Sorokin) — were sent packing in the season's first double elimination.

"There's so many things dancing through my head right now, you guys, so many thoughts, so many feelings. I guess the big word is just 'gratitude,'" Spelling revealed on her iHeartRadio podcast misSPELLING. "Honestly, I loved every second of this experience. I'm not going to lie. Did I want to stay longer? Duh. The ballroom gave me such a new take on life and such joy that I wanted to keep going. I felt like I was just getting started."

The theme of the episode was "Oscars night," which saw Spelling and partner Pasha Pashkov dancing the rumba to "This Is Me," from The Greatest Showman. Spelling explained that her friend and former Beverly Hills 90210 costar Gabrielle Carteris was in the audience to support her, which made the song especially meaningful, as its "our favorite movie."

"I don't know if there's ever been a contestant on Dancing with the Stars with initials T.S.," Spelling said (season 1's Trista Sutter and season 19's Tavis Smiley both beat her to it). "It's like [the show] was made for me — until it wasn't."

Earning among the lowest scores two weeks running, Spelling was sent home. On the podcast, she explained, "This is all such a new territory for me, and I had such an incredible experience."

"You know, I felt like I improved, I took their notes last week," she continued, singling out critiques from judge Carrie Ann Inaba from the previous week. "I worked really hard to move past the 'timid Tori' that Carrie Ann had called out, and I feel like I achieved that with this dance, because I felt really confident with this dance. I felt really good about myself, and that's all I could do, right? And I got to show off my flexibility. I'm really flexible, and I was like, That's my strong suit. I got to do some moves and, I don't know, they weren't easy. The choreography, it was challenging, and I worked through it and did it and owned it, and I'm really proud of that. But you know, you can't control how people vote."

She finally reasoned that at the end of the day, "Someone has to go home. There has to be eliminations."

Delvey, her partner in elimination, also came into week 2 fresh off a weak first performance, and her quickstep to KT Tunstall's "Suddenly I See" (fromThe Devil Wears Prada) with partner Ezra Sosa wasn't enough to redeem her.

“I think Anna has a lot of potential," Spelling said on the podcast. "This week, you know, she was starting to smile... she was starting to have more fun, and she has beautiful lines. I think she could be a beautiful dancer. But you know, she has a lot up against her with the public opinion of her."

Spelling said she knew about Delvey's past and had watched the Netflix limited series about her from creator Shonda Rhimes that starred Julia Garner.

"I saw Inventing Anna, and then I met the real human, and she and I have become unlikely friends," she continued. "You know, you hear everything and then you meet this person, You're like, She's very kind to me, She's nice. I had a great experience with her. I like her.... Taking everything that's been written about her, everything that she has done. It's just, as a human, I liked the human and I took everything else away."

Interestingly, while Spelling and Delvey were among the lowest scorers on DWTS' 33rd season cast the night of their double elimination, they weren't the lowest scoring. That title belongs to actors Reginald VelJohnson and Eric Roberts, at 31 and 30 cumulative scores, respectively. Currently leading the pack are Pretty Little Liars actress Chandler Kinney and the NBA's Dwight Howard.

Dancing With the Stars airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC and Disney+.
