Tommy Fury Reveals His 'Problem with Alcohol' Led to Split from Molly-Mae Hague: 'It Kills Me to Say It'
"Most nights I would to drink to get black-out drunk," the boxer, who continued to slam the narrative he cheated on his ex-fiancée, admitted
Tommy Fury is finally ready to talk about what led to his shocking split from Molly-Mae Hague.
The Love Island U.K. alums announced the end of their relationship after five years in August, with Hague, 25, saying she "never imagined our story would end, especially not this way." Rumors quickly circulated that Fury, also 25, had cheated on his fiancée, which he vehemently denied, and now, he's revealed what went wrong between the couple.
"We broke up because I had a problem with alcohol and I couldn't be the partner that I wanted to be anymore," he told Men's Health UK. "It kills me to say it, but I couldn't."
The professional boxer said that the months-long recovery from an injury that left him unable to train led him to start "drinking more heavily" because he "just wanted to feel somewhat happy."
"Where I'd normally be in camp, I’d just be smashing Guinness left, right and centers, then later on in the night shots would come out. Most nights I would to drink to get black-out drunk," he admitted. "I think that's what really took its toll on me."
Fury reiterated that "cheating was never a thing" that played a role in his and Hague's breakup.
"It was the drink, and the drink is not a good thing. You need to get a grip of it. If you're in the same spot as me, where you just think that it's going to cure all your problems, it doesn’t. You wake up even worse and you want to drink more to try and feel happy again. That's the cycle of it."
Of the overall narrative about their relationship, he added, "There's been so much s--- in the papers every single day for the past six months, but if it's not come from my mouth or Molly's mouth, it's complete and utter bulls---."

While he told the outlet he "got [him]self out of" the harmful cycle of alcohol, Fury said that the way the breakup has been handled in the media has been detrimental to him.
"I just wish people would've taken some time out, rather than giving me so much s--- every day, to think maybe there was more going on. Not once did anyone ask how I was," he said.
Still, the boxer noted he is "not looking for sympathy" but is instead focused on raising his nearly two-year-old daughter Bambi. "Whether I do the right thing or do the wrong thing, people are still going to hate me. As long as my family loves me. I just want to do my fights, earn my money, and look after my daughter."
Fury's revelations about his breakup come two months after Hague predicted that her ex would "talk about things eventually" in an interview with British Vogue.
"I do think that when he’s ready, like, maybe more will be said. But I think that’s for him to do on his terms," she said. "It's not like it's gossip. It's real life."

"I didn't want what happened to happen," she continued, reiterating that she "wanted to get married to Tommy, one hundred percent, and that would never have changed."
“No one will ever really know what went down apart from Tommy and I, and that’s how we’d like to keep it, for Bambi’s sake."
