Tom Hanks 'not great, but OK' amid coronavirus battle, sister reveals

A week after Tom Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson, tested positive for COVID-19, the famous actor’s sister has revealed Tom is ‘not great’.

The couple, both 63, were struck down by the virus while visiting Australia and were in isolation at Gold Coast University Hospital, before being quarantined at a rental home this week.

Tom Hanks' sister Sandra Hanks Benoiton said she had been in touch with her brother, before adding he was still under the weather.

“I have communicated with my brother. He's not great, but still okay,” she told Daily Mail.

“He's an actor, not a god,” she said, adding her appreciation for the medical care in Australia.

Sandra is Tom’s eldest sibling, and is currently living in Italy with her family. She moved there in 2016, and remains in lockdown herself.

Tom Hanks gives coronavirus symptoms update

Tom Hanks gave fans an update on his coronavirus symptoms earlier this week.

“Hey folks. Good News: One week after testing Positive, in self-isolation, the symptoms are much the same. No fever but the blahs,” Tom started his message on Wednesday.

“Folding the laundry and doing the dishes leads to a nap on the couch. Bad news: My wife @ritawilson has won 6 straight hands of Gin Rummy and leads by 201 points.

“But I have learned not to spread my Vegemite so thick. I travelled here with a typewriter, one I used to love. We are all in this together. Flatten the curve. Hanx.”

Tom Hanks and Rita first celebrities to test positive for coronavirus

On March 12 Tom and Rita became the first high-profile names to announce they were being treated in an Australian hospital after contracting the virus, sharing a message to fans on social media.

“Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia,” Tom wrote on Instagram.

“We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus, and were found to be positive.

“Well, now. What to do next? The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?

“We’ll keep the world posted and updated.

“Take care of yourselves!”
