Today viewers praise new host after Ally Langdon quits: 'The best'
Following news that Allison Langdon will be leaving Today in 2023 to host A Current Affair, Channel Nine has announced that Sarah Abo will co-host the breakfast show in the new year.
The 60 Minutes reporter, who has been described as “one of Australia’s most trusted journalists”, will join the show’s team of Karl Stefanovic, Alex Cullen, Brooke Boney and Tim Davies on Monday, January 16.
“I am thrilled to be joining the wonderful and hard-working team at Today, who manage to inform the nation every morning while also having a lot of fun,” she said in a statement.
“I have been incredibly fortunate to work alongside some of the country’s finest journalists at 60 Minutes and travel the nation and world bringing stories to Australian audiences. It is an absolute privilege to meet so many inspirational people and help tell their stories.
“I can’t wait to put everything I’ve learned from those amazing experiences into my new role at Today. The 3am alarm will be an adjustment, but I’m looking forward to keeping Karl on his toes. I know Ally will make a success of the move to ACA and I can't wait to watch her in the chair.”

Karl also commended Ally on her hard work during her stint on breakfast TV and welcomed Sarah to Today.
“Ally has been extraordinary over the last three years,” he said. “Battling through some tough personal physical obstacles to broadcast to the country during really difficult times. She’s an incredible broadcaster and I’ll miss working with her tremendously. Though, I won’t miss her dancing.
“Fortunately, Sarah is a gifted dancer and singer. More importantly, she’s a brilliant interviewer and has the most wicked sense of humour. I can’t wait for the country to see all of those wonderful qualities every day at breakfast.”
‘The perfect fit’
After the announcement was made on Sunday evening, a number of people took to social media to congratulate Sarah on the new gig.
“Alright, Australia! You wanted the best?! You got the best!” one person wrote, while another added, “Great news, couldn’t think of anyone better”.
“Absolutely love Sarah Abo, such talent and class,” a fan remarked, while a fourth replied, “Love Sarah, will definitely be watching. Excellent journalist, classy, fashionable and fun”.
“Wishing you all the very best Sarah,” someone else shared. “I hope Karl is gentle for a start. A big challenge ahead, but I’m sure you’ll have lots of fun too.”
Others said the news was “fabulous” and “wonderful” and Sarah will be “the perfect fit for the team”.
Meanwhile, plenty of viewers also sent their well wishes to Ally on her new role and said she will be missed on Today.
“I’m so sad to hear Ally is leaving! I love the banter between Karl and Ally!” one person commented, with another writing, “Will miss Ally so much! Her and Karl were a great team”.
“The Today Show won't be the same with Ally gone,” a different user added, followed by another who said, “Sad to see Ally go, I've loved you in the morning, but looking forward to watching you Sarah!”
