Today host Karl Stefanovic snaps over vaccines in on-air rant: 'Irresponsible'

Today show host Karl Stefanovic has gone on a rant over getting the flu vaccine this year, telling viewers "I don't want any more".

Ex-deputy chief medical officer Dr Nick Coatsworth was speaking on the breakfast program on Thursday morning, and urged Australians to get their annual influenza booster ahead of the flu season this winter.

"The best thing to do, if your immune memory is not so good, is to give it a boost with a vaccine from the age of six months of age and older," Dr Coatsworth told the presenters.

But Karl chimed in: "I'm making this revelation on national TV..."

"Oh no here we go," his co-host Sarah Abo, who is filling in for Allison Langdon on the Today show this week, said.

"Which people, you can say whatever you want - but I've had my fill of vaccines. I know it's irresponsible and I shouldn't be saying it but I don't want any more," Karl said, while Sarah responded saying: "Karlo".

"How do you respond," Karl asked the doctor.

Dr Coatsworth replied, saying: "I don't think it's irresponsible Karl, I think that's a view that people will be having. They've had so much health information they just want to switch off for a little while."

He added he simply wanted to "remind people flu is an annual thing", while Sarah joked that executives would be "booking Karl in for his flu jab after the segment".

The outburst comes after Sarah jokingly walked off set earlier this week after clashing with Karl Stefanovic.

While presenting the weather forecast, Sarah mispronounced the name of a town with Karl making fun of her for it.

"You did really well until the last bit. You always have to have something to get better at," he told her.

"I'm supposed to be here all week you know that right?" Sarah responded.

"Are you? We will see about that," Karl joked.

Sarah then stood up and joked, "Wow, ok see you, I'm out of here," as she walked away from the desk.

"No Sarah, come back!" Karl yelled, as she returned laughing.
