'Today' Fans Rally Around 'SNL' Star to Co-Host With Jenna Bush Hager After Hoda Kotb's Exit

Fans were convinced that Saturday Night Live star Mikey Day should take over for Hoda Kotb on Today With Hoda & Jenna after seeing his new appearance on the show.

The 44-year-old was a guest on the show with Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager on Dec. 3, talking about the Netflix show he hosts called Is It Cake?, when Bush Hager asked if he was aware that Kotb was leaving soon.

His passionate denial had the hosts laughing, with Day jokingly walking off set and proclaiming, "I'm leaving too then."

But then Bush Hager mentioned the opportunity to take over for Kotb, saying, "Mikey, there's a chair open. Would you ever host a morning show?"

He replied, "Are you kidding? Let's do it!" before immediately launching into a possible theme song for their hypothetical show.

Day then asked for confirmation that there would be guest hosts in the wake of Kotb's exit, singing loudly, "I'm throwing my hat in the ring, producers!"

Fans were in full support of Day's potential hosting gig, with comments like, "YES! Mikey!!!! Everyone loves Mikey!!!!😍," and "Mike would be awesome! 😂."

Another wrote, "Ok I’ve never watched his show but I’m already dying for him to be a guest host!! This was hilarious!"

"I would totally never leave the channel and watch every single with @mikeyfuntime," said a different enthusiastic fan of the comedian, as more shared their agreement, calling Day "hilarious" and "hysterical,"

In one case, a fan declared, "HE IS THE ONE!!!!"

During the Tuesday episode of Today, Bush Hager also mentioned Gayle King as a potential co-host, teasing Kotb as she gave a pitch to the CBS News anchor.

NBC announced in November that Today With Hoda & Jenna would become Jenna & Friends, with guest co-hosts filling in until the show decides to add another permanent host.
