'Today' Contributor Suddenly Separates From Husband After Just 2 Years of Marriage

Today contributor Jill Martin and her husband, Erik Brooks, are in the process of ending their marriage about two years after tying the knot.

The news of the couple’s sudden separation was first reported earlier this week by Page Six, which cited an unnamed spokesperson for Martin who said the two were “quietly divorcing.” They filed for divorce in early August and were “nearly done with the process” as of Wednesday, Sept. 4.

Martin, 48, married the founder and managing partner of Ethos Capital on Sept. 10, 2022. They were first engaged to be married in 2019 after meeting through a dating app, though they broke off their plans shortly thereafter and separated after the need to live in different places amid the coronavirus pandemic put strain on their relationship. The TV personality and financier later reunited and were once again engaged by late 2021, with their New York City wedding occurring one year later.

A few months after her walk down the aisle, Martin revealed in an emotional essay published online in July 2023 by Today that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. At the time, she urged early screenings and raised awareness about testing for the BRCA genes, one of which she learned she has. Martin publicly provided occasional updates on her cancer journey in the year that followed.

In the wake of her diagnosis last year and her more recent separation from Brooks, a spokesperson for Martin told People that she is “focused on getting healthy and making a difference,” with a “new business” in the works and a special plan in place for the Today show in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is in October.

Martin’s spokesperson also told Page Six that Martin will be focused on her health and her family in the days ahead as she moves on from her marriage.
