Timothy Simons Fumbles His Lines in Coors Light's 2025 Super Bowl Ad Teaser — How the Actor Relates (Exclusive)

The ‘Veep’ alum tells PEOPLE that he’s no stranger to “bombing” a scene while on set

Timothy Simons is not afraid to own up to the times he’s flubbed his lines.

In a new teaser for Coors Light’s 2025 Super Bowl ad, the Nobody Wants This star is supposed to deliver the line “That’s not my problem” on the set of a sitcom — but he can’t seem to get the words out correctly.

“That’s not my pasta,” tries the actor, prompting the increasingly frustrated director, played by Rich Sommer, to interject with the correct line. The scene grows more and more chaotic: Simons is easily distracted by pieces of the set and cannot seem to follow his director’s cues.

“Do you have a case of the Mondays?” Sommer asks Simons at the ad’s conclusion — handing him a 12-pack of “Mondays Light” and informing him that he’s been replaced.

In an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE, Simons, 46, reveals that the fictionalized commercial is not entirely unfamiliar to him.

“There is not a phone call long enough to tell you the amount of times that I have bombed on set,” says the Veep alum.

“There was one time that I remember bombing so hard that the director turned, looked at me, pointed at me and then made this little gesture with his finger that meant the only thing that went wrong was you, and now we have to do this again,” continues the star. “I broke out in the coldest sweat I’ve ever broken out in. It was a nightmare.”

There have also been moments, adds Simons, where he’s tried to improvise the script on the spot — to less than optimal success. “You’re like, ‘Oh, I’ve got the perfect joke that’s going to kill,’ and you do it and it just falls so flat. And everybody is like, ‘Yeah let’s just go with the scripted line,’” says the actor. “It’s brutal.”

But the set of the Coors Light commercial was not such a situation: “I’ve known Rich Sommer, who plays the director, for a really long time, so it was fun spending the day with him. A lot of the stuff that came up was just reacting off of him throwing stuff out. It was just a really great time,” he says.

As for Super Bowl Sunday, Simons says he plans to pair his Coors Light with his go-to snack: seven-layer dip.

“I’m not a big snacker, and so I leave them to special occasions,” the actor tells PEOPLE. “I go hard during the actual game and I try to keep it clean most other days.”
