Tim Walz Wore 1 Thing No One Expected To See At A Debate

Kamala Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, appeared to be wearing friendship bracelets during his vice presidential debate with Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) on Tuesday.

The subtle fashion statement, which could be seen in quick flashes whenever Walz motioned with his hands, brought to mind pop singer Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Vice President Harris on Sept. 10. Swifties, as her fans are called, have notably made and exchanged these beaded friendship bracelets in homage to Swift’s 2022 song “You’re on Your Own, Kid.”

Walz acknowledged wearing the bracelets on Wednesday in a social media post when Swifties For Kamala, a coalition of Swift fans in support of Harris, drew attention to them.

“Nothing is more important in my life than being a dad. Grateful to Hope for the lucky charm before the debate last night,” he wrote.

Following Swift’s endorsement, the Harris-Walz campaign released its own $20 friendship bracelets, which feature the surnames of the two Democratic candidates. The bracelets quickly sold out, according to Billboard magazine.

Walz’s bracelets and a watch accessorized his black suit and blue tie on the CBS News debate stage.

JD Vance wore a navy suit with a hot pink tie.

Both wore U.S. flag pins on their lapels.

In Swift’s endorsement of Harris and Walz, she mocked Vance’s resurfaced “childless cat lady” remarks and lauded Walz for being a politician “who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.”

Walz responded to Swift’s endorsement while on air with MSNBC host Rachel Maddow.

“I am incredibly grateful to Taylor Swift. I say that as a fellow cat owner,” he said.
