TikTok musician adds flair to his drumming with paint splatter

Austin Ware, who simply goes by thetiktokdrummer on TikTok, is the self-described “CEO of drums” and has 2 million followers.

What separates Ware from other musicians who can expertly wail on drums, is his showmanship. He makes himself a spectacle by pouring paints onto his drums before playing. The ole splash trick has been done a billion times by others, like Shakira in “Can’t Remember to Forget You,” the Blue Man Group and the drag queen Detox on “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars.” But Ware has made the technique his own with his unique set up.

Most of his videos begin the same. The musician is staged in front of a black backdrop with very dark lighting. Ware’s electric hair color (usually an icy blond or bright blue) and neon paints elicit intrigue before he even starts playing.

In one video, he pours green, orange and red paints onto the drums. Then he beats on them, splattering the colors everywhere on his body and into the air. Scored to a mashup between Ozzy Osbourne’s “Crazy Train” and Post Malone’s “Fall Apart,” the clip racked up 17.3 million views.

“Omg, this is hypnotizing,” one user wrote.

“I can’t stop watching this for some reason,” a TikTok user commented.

“Reminds me of the blue man show I went,” another said.
