This shower hack could save you hundreds: 'Best thing I ever bought'

Keeping your house well maintained and avoiding expensive repairs is especially important with the cost of living rising and a little hack or two can save you big money.

You may not have thought much about where the water goes when taking a bath or shower but if you have a family member with long hair, that could cause you huge problems with blocked drains and hefty plumber bills.

One user took to Facebook recently and share their simple hack for keeping the drains clean of hair and other nasties.

"Do yourself a favour and put these drain hair catchers in your budget as they can save you hundreds if not thousands in the long run in plumbing costs," a group member wrote on the Facebook Markdown Addicts Australia group.

"I’m so grossed out by this retrieval but gotta be grateful I was able to do the job instead of a plumber right," they posted anonymously.

The disposable gadget, sometimes called a hair snare or drain wig, has a chain with plastic snares that sit in your drain and catch the hair before they go further down the pipe clogging it.

"I was totally grossed out by it but wanted to share so people knew what could be going down the drain along with some $$$."

Other members of the group were pleased they'd discovering the simple gadget.

"Best thing I did, daughter has such long hair, amazing how much hair is caught," one mum wrote.

"I got the yellow plastic one from Bunnings when the basin at our old house kept blocking... Couldn't believe how much gunk I got out... Best thing I ever bought," another added.

"Hubby made me a long metal hook. I do ours every couple of months. Our suckers are the size of yeti's," a third commented jokingly.

"They will save you a headache and plumbers bill," the OP added in the comments.

While some people were happy to clean the hair out of the hair catcher and reuse them, others were thankful the wigs are disposable so you can throw them out without having to touch the matted hair and detergent caught in it.

Either way, all the group members were stoked the cheap gadget would mean less calls to the plumber!
