The Project hosts left shocked over Queen Mary revelation: 'She didn't graduate?'

Mary Donaldson was very keen to make sure she impressed her prince.

She may be Queen of Denmark now but 24 years ago, Mary Donaldson as she was known then, actually failed her princess training course.

Weeks after meeting Prince Frederik at the Slip Inn pub in Sydney, a then 28-year-old Mary, who was working in marketing at the time, enrolled in a $1195 30-hour starmakers course by Teresa Page.

However, Teresa revealed in a candid chat with The Project on Sunday night that Mary never made it to the end of the course.

When questioned about whether Mary called Teresa up and told her that she needed to prepare to be a princess after meeting Prince Frederik, Teresa responded that Mary is ‘way more self-contained than that’.

“What actually happened was that it was an eight week training. Mary missed the last module because she said she had family visiting from overseas.”

The hosts let out a collective gasp as host Hamish MacDonald said: “So you’re saying she didn’t graduate.”

Teresa went on to say that she had no idea at the time that Mary had met Prince Frederik,, with the now Queen simply saying to her: “I’m 28-years-old, life is passing me by and I want to do something to change my life”.

“I felt her engagement with the material, her love of learning and wanting to change herself and transform her life.”

During the duration of the course, Mary learned stage skills, how to walk into a room and shake hands with people, and the tools she would need to sustain a career in the spotlight.

Prince Frederik and Queen Mary crowned

Yesterday, the Danish prime minister officially proclaimed King Frederik X before he and his Australian wife, Mary, made their way to the balcony of Copenhagen’s Christiansborg Palace.

The couple were seen waving to the thousands of spectators who had congregated to witness the historic moment before sharing what many are describing as an ‘awkward’ kiss.

King Frederik addressed the spectators, saying: “My hope is to be a unifying King of tomorrow. It's an assignment I've been preparing for my entire life. It's a responsibility I'm taking on with respect, pride and immense joy.”

He then referenced his wife, Mary, saying: “I need all the support I can get from my beloved wife, my family and from God.”

Afterward, the royal couple rode home to Amalienborg Palace in a horse-drawn carriage. They will kick off their new roles on Monday with a reception at the Danish parliament.
