'I’m not one to break things up': Cody Simpson defends Miley Cyrus relationship

It’s been a whirlwind few weeks for Aussie singer Cody Simpson, after he went public with his relationship with Miley Cyrus and last night took out the top spot on The Masked Singer.

And now, the 22-year-old has defended how quickly things have moved between him and the 26-year-old Slide Away star, saying Miley was not still in a relationship with Kaitlynn Carter when they started seeing each other.

“I’m not one to break things up and I have respect for what’s she’s been through this year,” Cody said on Nova 96.9’s Fitzy & Wippa show this morning.

“It was just the fact that we were friends for so long that when things turned into something more it was just like a very natural thing.”

Miley famously dated Brody Jenner’s ex, Kaitlynn, after she split with her husband of just under one year, Liam Hemsworth, back in early August.

Cody went on to confess that he used to kiss his TV screen when he was nine-years-old because he was so in love with Miley Cyrus.

And while he said it’s too early for them to be in love in their relationship, Miley is one of the ‘most amazing people’ he’s ever met.

Speaking on Nova 100’s Chrissie, Sam & Browny Show, Cody said both he and Miley have been sober for the past few months, which is ‘one of the best things about the relationship’.

“Great things have been happening in my life since I went sober. I feel efficient, I feel mean, I feel sharp, I feel productive,” he said.

Last night, Cody became the winner of Channel 10’s hit show, The Msked Singer, with Lindsay Lohan being the only one of the judges to guess who was behind the robot’s mask.

Lindsay’s fellow judges were left astounded as her prediction came true right before their eyes, with Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes pointing out the Freaky Friday star for her triumph.

“You did it, you did it!” her co-panellist Dannii congratulated her.

It seems as though Lindsay may have had somewhat of an unfair advantage on her fellow judges when it came to unravelling the Robot’s identity, after revealing that Cody had in fact dated her younger sister Ali Lohan in the past.
