Eighteen months ago, face masks were reserved for hospital staff; today they're a staple part of an outfit - and it doesn't look likely that will end any time soon for most Australians.

But not all reusable face masks are made equal. Some are softer and comfier than others.

We've rounded up the best breathable, reliable, and affordable masks - and of course made sure they look good as well.

Cotton On Foundation Face Masks are some of the best fitting we've found. Made from cotton, they have adjustable elastic straps and come in two sizes.

They filter at least 90% of airborne particles including general pathogens and air pollution. Plus 100% of the proceeds goes to the Cotton On Foundation which supports UNICEF. They're $9.99.

Reiss' silk-lined face mask is great for sensitive skin, as it doesn't irritate when it sits on your face.

With adjustable straps and an outer layer of breathable viscose, it's currently reduced from $20 to just $5.

Made from two layers of organic cotton and hemp, with an inner pocket for adding a filter, these Nya face masks, $25, also come in children's sizes.

If you want to look smart in your mask, then the Clear Collective Reusable Cotton Face Mask from The Iconic is the way to go.

Made from 100% soft cotton, it feels soft to wear, has soft stretchy straps, and has a pinchable nose seal for a customisable fit.

It comes with filters that should be replaced after 50 hours of use. It's a bit pricier than some, at $49.95, but is designed to last well.

Stock up with this 5 pack of face coverings from ASOS. All the masks in the pack come with adjustable straps, a nose clip for improved fit, and a matching pouch so you can store them easily.

In a range of fun prints, they're great for keeping in your handbag, in the car, and at work for whenever you might need a mask quickly. The pack is available for $16.

It can be easily converted to a face cover, neck gaiter or bandana. Wearing it as a mask means it is extra stretchy and comfortable.
