How Taylor Swift Helped Pop Star Leona Lewis Feel Less Like an 'Outsider' In Early Career

As Taylor Swift prepared to bring her hit international Eras Tour to an end, one pop star she positively impacted years ago shared a sweet memory of their first meeting after attending one of the tour’s final shows.

Leona Lewis, a singer/songwriter who experienced a career breakthrough in 2006 when she was declared the winner on the third season of The X Factor and who later released hits such as “Bleeding Love” and “Better in Time,” recalled meeting Swift “at the beginning of my career” after performing at an awards show. Lewis shared the rest of the memory in a post on Instagram on Saturday, Dec. 7.

“After my performance some of the artists gathered outside and everyone seemed to know eachother and have their own cliques,” Lewis, 39, wrote. “I remember feeling very awkward and I just sat on the pavement feeling lonely and just wanting to go home.”

It was then that Swift, 34, “spotted” Lewis and “rushed over.”

“We chatted about music and she was so kind and welcoming,” Lewis reminisced. “Her words meant so much to me at a time when I felt like a bit of an outsider. She truly lifted my spirit.”

The British singer then revealed that she was in the audience when Swift performed one of her final Eras Tour shows in Canada on Friday, Dec. 6. The tour is scheduled to come to an end on Sunday, Dec. 8. “She is still the kindest most warm soul and I’m so blessed I got to watch and support her in all of her glory last night,” Lewis wrote. She included in her post a video of herself dancing along to the music while standing in Vancouver’s BC Place for the Friday show, and also shared a video clip showing Swift performing onstage. The post kicked off with a snapshot of Lewis holding her hand to her heart, a collection of friendship bracelets stacked on her wrist.

“In a time when there is so much to be sad about, the audience got to experience pure joy together and that is truly a gift,” Lewis wrote to conclude her touching Instagram tribute. “Love you @taylorswift 🤍.”
