Taylor Swift Fans Outraged Over 'Invasive' New Video: 'Bring Back Social Awareness'

Taylor Swift fans are coming to her defense after a social media user's "invasive" lip-reading video of the singer chatting with WNBA star Caitlin Clark went viral.

In the clip, Swift, 35, could be seen saying something before covering her mouth while talking with Clark, 23, at the Kansas City Chiefs game against the Houston Texans on Jan. 18. Clark, who didn't cover her mouth, responded to the 14-time Grammy Award winner, who then began talking again for a few seconds before putting her hand in front of her mouth a second time as she finished her sentence.

The social media user in question appeared to dub their voice over Swift and Clark's mouth movements with what she believed the pair said.

Swifties did not take lightly to the video, with one writing via X, "No shade but this is why she covers her mouth now and we’re still doing it? Bring back social awareness."

"Sorry this whole video is weird! She’s covering her mouth for a reason and this is the exact reason," another person wrote, to which someone else replied, "The part where the girl covers her own mouth to imitate Taylor is WILD. Like please take a step back."

A separate Swift fan said, "It's not enough that she feels that she lives in a fish bowl, people are so nosy that they want to know what the fish are saying," while another chimed in with, "And no one sees the dehumanization of it all."

Though Swift and Clark's game day outing together may seem random, the Indiana Fever star revealed that Swift had invited her to a Chiefs game while speaking to TIME for her 2024 Athlete of the Year profile in December, telling the outlet that the Tortured Poets Department singer gave her four bags of Eras Tour merchandise after she attended back-to-back shows at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

In one of those bags was a note saying Clark was inspiring to watch, and that "Trav and I" were excited to attend a Fever game now that her years-long tour had wrapped. The note also served as her invitation to a Chiefs game.

“People are just going crazy that I’m there,” Clark told TIME of the unexpected attention she got at the concert. “I thought people would be so in their own world, ready to see Taylor. And it was just completely the opposite.”
