Sydney Sweeney teaches Jimmy Fallon about Schoolies in hilarious interview

Who said Australians have no culture?

Sydney Sweeney has spent a lot of time in Australia recently, shooting two films, with Anyone But You being the rom-com that everyone is currently talking about.

Out in cinemas on Boxing Day, Sydney is currently in the middle of a whirlwind press tour for the film, and popped up on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon to discuss her experience filming in Australia.

While the two bonded over how nice Australians are, as well as their fear of big spiders, it was when Jimmy asked Sydney if she learned any Aussie slang that she educated him on an iconic rite of passage for young Australians: Schoolies.

The description of graduating high schoolers going to Schoolies (which Sydney described as 'Spring Break') teamed with the threat of Toolies (anyone older than 21 who descends on Schoolies which is, quite frankly, embarrassing behaviour) left Jimmy in a fit of laughter.

"While I’ve been there, they had this thing called the Schoolies, and it’s when the high schoolers graduate, and they go and have their big huge spring break party,” Sydney explained.

“They shut down all the streets and the Schoolies go out, and then the ‘toolies’ go out too. And they put wristbands on them to know that there are tools trying to pick up younger kids.”

Laughing out loud, Jimmy exclaimed: “The toolies and the schoolies?! That’s so fun, I love that!”

Sydney then went on to explain the concept of 'Foolies' also.

“And then anybody that is still in high school that goes out also gets a different colour wristband and they’re called the ‘foolies’. When they aren’t old enough to be messing around, so they’re fools," she said.

Sydney also said while filming Anyone But You she was bitten by a trained spider.

“They told me it was trained,” Sweeney said. “I don't know how you train a freaking spider. There's no way!"
