That’s the exact predicament Bianca faced in Wednesday’s episode when the Civa tribe was sent to Tribal Council for the very first time. Her original plan was to pit both pairs (Cedrek/Sai and Chrissy/Mitch) against each other, considering that she had lost her vote on a prior journey. But at the very last second, she decided to try and pull Cedrek closer by revealing the truth about her vote. And it’s a decision that ultimately cost her her game. Cedrek and Chrissy both wrote Bianca’s name down and she became the fifth person to exit Survivor 48. (Read our recap here.)
Below, Bianca explains her thought process in telling Cedrek the truth, and also gives us a behind-the-scenes peek at what wasn’t shown in the episode.
TVLINE | Walk me through your decision to tell Cedrek the truth about your lost vote.
BIANCA ROSES | It honestly came down to the one thing that I went into this game saying I wasn’t gonna do. But then you’re out there and you’re like, “Oh, you actually do have to do this to get farther,” which is build trust. And the decision really came down to me feeling like, “I do think that Chrissy and Mitch are voting for Sai. So let me tell [Cedrek] at the very last second and just try to build a little bit of trust and tell one person, so when we get back here, I [haven’t] completely lied to everyone and have no longevity in the game.” It just didn’t work out. I trusted the wrong person.
TVLINE | Hindsight is 20/20, but do you regret the decision or do you stand by what you were trying to accomplish there?
Hindsight is 20/20, and I don’t regret the decision because had it worked out, it would have been great, right? Sai would have gone home. I would have come back to camp with a new ally, Cedrek. It just didn’t work out. Sure, I regret it because it didn’t work out, but I also trusted my gut in that moment. I don’t know what Cedrek was doing! Like, let’s talk about that for a second! I don’t know what that decision was to vote me out and keep the girl that I knew he had been voting for and trying to get out. Both of them told me that. Sai was like, “He’s voted for me,” and Ced was like, “I voted for her multiple times.” So I really don’t know what that man was thinking.
But yeah, I don’t regret it because “no regrets” and everything happens for a reason, but I also do regret it because it didn’t work out. [Laughs] And I said out there, Nick, I was like, “I can’t be the Hunter. I can’t be like Hunter telling Kenzie right before Tribal that he had the idol and then he goes home,” and it happens! You’re out there and you have a million things happening and you’re trying to figure out the best path forward. I took a calculated risk to give me a little bit more longevity in the game and it didn’t work out.
TVLINE | In the episode, you looked absolutely crushed on your way out. What was it like watching it all back last night?
Oh my God, it was hard. I cried a lot last night. It’s so many emotions of feeling so much gratitude to get to play the greatest game in the world that I’ve wanted to play forever. But it’s really sad. It’s like watching your dreams be crushed again. It’s like reliving a trauma. It was tough. But I had my people with me. I had my parents with me, my fiancé. I had my core peeps.
TVLINE | Were you aware of any relationship or trust between Ced and Chrissy? I was confused how the two of them got together to connect those dots and vote you out.
I am also confused! Make it make sense. Cedrek, after I strategically waited until we went to Tribal to tell him, and he did not talk to anyone when we were at camp before we got to Tribal. I watched him like a hawk. I watched him like a crazy person and nothing happened. He didn’t, from what I saw, talk to anyone, so it’s a mystery.
TVLINE | There was this powerful moment between Eva and Joe after the challenge. What was your reaction to that as it was unfolding?
It was extremely powerful, extremely emotional. I was so proud of her for how strong and resilient… and I already was like “Eva is fierce. She is so badass.” And then to discover something about her that I didn’t know the whole time I was living with her… that bravery was really powerful. And it’s that element of Survivor that, when you live it and you realize how raw these emotions are, but it’s still all impacting the game and I have to click into, “Well, I lost, and I have to go into survival mode now,” and I have to get myself through the night and also process all of these emotions and also think about, “Well, now Eva and Joe have revealed this bond to everyone. What does that mean for me moving forward?” It’s a lot.
TVLINE | The switch really changed everything for you in this game. Had you stayed with your original Lagi tribe, what would that first Tribal Council have looked like?
I don’t have a vote or I do have a vote?
TVLINE | Let’s say for this hypothetical that you do still have your vote.
Had I had a vote, I would have been gunning for Eva. And the reason is because I’m not an idiot. I knew these three boys, the Cali Girls, had a thing happening. And I very much felt like Star was on the bottom of the tribe and Eva and I were the outlier of the three. So I felt like if we keep Eva around, I’m the next one out, for sure. So I would have definitely tried to work with Shauhin, Thomas and Star to get Eva out. And luckily, after Eva gave Joe that bead that she made for his daughter, Shauhin was all for trying to get Eva out. So I was like, “OK, we’ve got some momentum here.” If I didn’t have a vote, had we gone to Tribal, I think it would have had to have been Star, just to keep me safe because I didn’t have a vote and we would have needed the numbers and “anyone but me.”
TVLINE | What’s something about your Survivor experience that wasn’t shown on TV?
I wish a little bit more of my strategic play was shown, like I already knew that Star had the Beware Advantage before that scene that was shown of her telling me and Thomas. And then even with Cedrek on Civa, there was a lot of our relationship building that wasn’t shown, and that was why I ultimately decided to try to trust him. Also, when I got back to camp, when I got back to Civa after seeing that Thomas was gone, I knew in my bones that Kamilla or Kyle had an idol. I knew it. So I went hunting hard. I was like, “That idol has gotta be planted back at camp. I’m on Civa. Let’s go.” There was a solid couple of hours where I was like, “I’m finding this idol and I’m gonna be safe and I’m gonna be good!” Didn’t happen, but yeah, that was something too.
