Sunrise star's X-rated joke leaves co-hosts blushing: 'Jump out naked'

The Sunrise team were left red-faced on Friday morning when fill-in host Matt Shirvington cracked a rather X-rated joke about a very cheeky news story.

Nat Barr presented a jaw-dropping video package that saw a Gold Coast man run out of his home in the middle of the night to confront a potential thief in the nude.

CCTV footage showed David Rutherford bust a teenager attempting to steal his car, using his jiu-jitsu skills to apprehend the youngster all while completely naked.

Mr. Rutherford told 7News that he "didn't have time to put clothes on" before giving chase as he sleeps sans pajamas.

He said he found several sets of car keys, including his own, in the teen's pocket but eventually let him go.

Nat couldn't keep the smile off her face when she informed viewers that the jiu-jitsu move Mr. Rutherford employed is actually called a 'rear-naked choke'.

"You could say David eventually turned the other cheek," she added with a grin.

Nat rejoined her co-hosts Matt, Mark Beretta and Edwina Bartholomew on the studio couch as they all giggled over the titillating story.

"Talk about going to great lengths," deadpanned Matt, leaving everyone blushing.

"Would you jump out of bed naked to rescue the car?" he asked his colleagues.

"Yes, because I know it would scare the thief away big time," chuckled Mark, prompting Nat to jump in with, "Not as much as if I jumped out naked, Beretts!"

Over on Twitter, Sunrise viewers were equally impressed with Mr. Rutherford's starkers antics.

"This has to be the most Australian thing ever," one wrote.

"Big bald naked guy comes and puts you in a rear-naked chokehold... tell me this is not everyone's nightmare?" added another.
