Sunrise's Edwina Bartholomew 'not entirely happy' after major change

Sunrise star Edwina Bartholomew was reportedly "not entirely happy" after a major change at the popular breakfast program when Samantha Armytage decided to leave the show after eight years.

Natalie Barr was quickly announced as the show's new co-host, stepping into the role alongside David 'Kochie' Koch, a move an insider claims left Edwina feeling "rightly miffed".

"One day [Sam] was out the door and the next day they announced Nat as her replacement," a source reportedly told New Idea magazine.

"There was no opportunity for Eddie to put up her hand and say 'pick me'."

Edwina was apparently at least “hoping for a look in”, having considered herself "as a firm favourite after years of loyalty".

However, it's been stressed any feelings Edwina may have about missing out on the role are not directed at Nat, who she has praised publicly on numerous occasions.

Sharing a post on her Instagram when Nat was first announced as new Sunrise host, Edwina called the change a "new dawn".

"I have worked alongside Nat on and off for almost twenty years. She is the hardest working person I know, an excellent journalist and wonderful Mum to her two boys," Edwina said.

"Extremely elegant but also a self-confessed dag, I can’t wait to see what she brings to the role.

"On a personal note, Nat has been such a great support since I had Molly with more than a few chats in the change room about the challenges of sleepless nights and juggling it all.

"Bring on Monday morning and this next chapter."

Samantha Armytage announced she was leaving Sunrise in March, after sharing the hosting duties for eight years.

"I have always been brave and fearless in my career and this decision is no different," Samantha said.

“I want to take a break and find some peace and calm. I go out of this job at a time of my own choosing and on top of the ratings, which not many people on television can say they do.

“I cannot thank you all enough for having me in your lounge rooms all these years.”

She also broke down in tears as she made the bombshell announcement on air.
