On Tuesday, J.Crew continued its streak of excellent collaborations with IYKYK fashion labels by launching a capsule by Maryam Nassir Zadeh. The pieces imagine a wardrobe for a Mediterranean summer vacation (the lookbook was photographed in Formentera, Spain), imbued with the New York-based designer's surprising approach to minimalism — think unexpected color pairings (sandy brown and black, pale blue with cherry red) and varying textures (ramie, chiffon, mesh) on pared-back, vintage-inspired silhouettes. Like much of J.Crew's offering, the range is available in sizes XXS through 3X; there are also a handful of items for kids.
I, sadly, don't have plans to summer in Europe (or use "summer" as a verb), but this linen set, with its slightly sheer square-neck cropped top and subtly drop-waist midi skirt, gives that feeling for a fraction of the cost of an airline ticket.
It doesn't require much accessorizing — in the lookbook, the model carries the navy mesh tote from the collaboration, with the metallic braided block-heel sandals. And, as separates, the top and bottom can each be styled with a variety of pieces already in my wardrobe: a black bodysuit, jeans (or denim shorts), a striped button-down, printed skirts.

Other highlights of this collaboration include a sheer cropped cardigan sweater that feels very Limited Too, but for grown-ups; a fitted baby tee with a slight boatneck that could've been plucked from the wardrobe department of a Godard film; an embellished chiffon bolero; and a floral hair clip that can only be described as darling. I'm about to make a reservation at the nearest Spanish restaurant, just for the vibe.
