Study finds stay-at-home mums deserve a 'pay rise'
Being a stay-at-home mum is no easy task.
And now a study has confirmed that if there was a salary for the job, stay-at-home mums should be earning a whole lot of money.
Salary.com’s Salary Wizard work out the figure each year by selecting a handful of jobs that reflect a day in the life of a mum.
They then came to the conclusion that the median annual salary for a mum is $226,899 – going up $6,978 since 2017.
The researchers explained that the salary deserves that amount because SAHMs actually take on a “hybrid” of roles which include staff nurse, education, executive housekeeper, facilities director, interior designer and tax accountant.
And they also took into account that the hours are not flexible, meaning in an average work situation many people would probably turn it down.
While the findings are a nice way to prove something must people already know about just how much work goes into being a full-time child carer, the salary isn’t something that will ever be offered to stay-at-home mums.
It’s still nice to know the high value of the job, either way!
