Student's 'inspiring' crafty crop top goes viral

An entrepreneurial student’s crafty side hustle has gone viral, after making a hilarious business pitch online.

Ben Christy took to Twitter to market his crochet skills, in the hope of selling female friends homemade ‘tops, skirts’ and ‘even booty shorts’ ahead of music festival season.

“Hey y’all, so I really need money and I’m low-key ‘wet’ at crocheting,” he revealed to his 19,000 followers, adding that they should ‘hit him up’ if they were interested in a similar creation.

In the photo accompanying the post, the University of Arizona student can be seen wearing nothing but shorts and one of his own designs – a crochet halterneck top.

Despite thousands of users assuming Ben’s business was disingenuous, he silenced critics by uploading a crocheting tutorial for those also looking to take up the hobby.

Demand for the creations soon multiplied and the aerospace engineering student informed his now-thousands of potential new customers he was ‘overwhelmed’ by the number of orders.

“I have over 1000 replies asking for crochet stuff..I wish I could do it all but I don’t think that’s possible,” he wrote.

“I just thought a couple of mutuals would be interested but I will try to get as many as done as possible. First come, first serve.”

Complimentary responses took note of Ben’s ‘great modelling’ skills, with another referring to his stitching style as ‘impeccable’.

Another person told Ben he’s ‘an inspiration’ for ‘bringing crochet back’.

Others went even further, with one user going as far as to call the design ‘modern art’, adding that they hoped Ben ‘had a nice day’ following his now-viral status on Twitter.
