Yahoo Lifestyle Stop Coming for Parker Posey’s ‘White Lotus’ Accent
There are two types of White Lotus fans right now: Those that are obsessed with Parker Posey’s Southern accent, and those that hate it. To play the lorazepam-dependent southern matriarch, Victoria Ratliff, Parker put on a thick North Carolinian accent that is both mesmerizing and perplexing, all at the same time.
Needless to say, Parker’s accent has been getting mixed reviews, but during a recent appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the actor revealed she has the only seal of approval that matters: that of actual North Carolinians. “I was in Paris—I was at the Valentino fashion show,” Parker said. “And there were these people from North Carolina at the hotel and they were like, ‘We just have to say, ‘We’re from North Carolina. We think you’re doing a great job. We love the accent—it’s dead on. You’ve got that part down.’” Take that, internet!

As for how she came up with the accent, Parker said that after reading Mike White’s script, she was inspired to make her role as funny as possible. “As an actor, you approach the text,” she explained. “I had all these jokes, it was like, ‘Okay, how can I really play it up and make this a character?’”
She also told host Seth Meyers that she “loves Southern accents.” Previously, while attending the White Lotus season 3 premiere, Parker told Deadline that her goal with Victoria’s accent was to make her sound “funny” and “snobby” (check and check, Parker!), adding that she pulled on her own Southern roots for inspiration. “It’s from the feeling, right? The sounds come from the feeling,” she said.
Parker also didn’t put any limits on her accent, so if it sounds dramatic or over-the-top to you, that’s kinda how it’s supposed to sound. Discussing her accent on Today, Parker said that she’s always wanted to play a great, dramatic, Southern character. “Being able to be this dramatic is just so juicy and fun to do.”

Admittedly, I’m not an expert on Southern accents, but I’ll just say that I am loving Parker in The White Lotus. And if it’s good enough for those tourists from North Carolina, it’s good enough for me!
