Stephen Colbert calls out Melania Trump’s bizarre nude modeling post
As election season reaches a fever pitch, Stephen Colbert is bewildered by Melania Trump bizarrely putting the focus on her nude modeling past as her husband campaigns for president.
The former first lady posted a video to social media Wednesday morning, defending her earlier modeling work as she promoted her forthcoming book.
“Why do I stand proudly behind my nude modeling work?” she asked in the clip posted to X and Instagram. “The more pressing question is: Why has the media chosen to scrutinize my celebration of the human form in a fashion photo shoot?”
Colbert expressed his confusion during the opening monologue of “The Late Show” on Wednesday, trying to hold back his laughter.
“I’m sorry, what’s happening? Why would you ask that?” he said. ”No one, absolutely no one is talking about your nude modeling!”
“I know you got a new memoir coming out and you’re trying to get attention but America is facing a far more pressing question,” he continued.
The Emmy winner noted that her husband’s presidential campaign has been struggling and “needs all the help it can get to stay on message these days” — then joked about Melania, who’s been notably absent from the campaign trail, finally “pitch[ing] in with this video.”
“Ah yes, the thing the media is definitely scrutinizing — the 24-year-old naked photo shoot of Melania on Trump’s plane,” Colbert said, referencing nude photos of Melania on the private jet of her then-boyfriend in 2000.
Colbert, who also has a cookbook on shelves this month, cracked: “Melania’s courage to bring up her old nudes, when absolutely no one was talking about them, has inspired me to come forward with my own titillating photo shoot.”
“It’s in my book, ‘Does This Taste Funny?,’ written with my wife Eve,” he said, holding up the recipe book. “I want to warn everyone, if there are children at home I want to warn you: It contains full frontal feet. OK?”
