SNL Duet Calls for an End to ‘Slay,’ ‘Sus,’ ‘Bop’ and Other Overused Slang — WATCH (and Agree!)
Not me getting called out by SNL for using “sus” on the TVLine homepage a few weeks ago!
This weekend’s Saturday Night Live featured a second duet between mother host/musical guest Lady Gaga and Bowen Yang, in which their characters break up a brunch amongst friends to call for an end to the use of “slay,” “sus,” “bop” and other overused slang — especially by straight white people of a certain age.

Setting the stage for Gaga and Yang’s duet is Sarah Sherman’s 32-year-old 44-year-old character describing both the restaurant and her eggs as a “slay,” then adding that her shakshuka is “giving.”
Andrew Dismukes’ character snowballs onto that by heralding the mimosas as “blowing slay chunks and vomiting into the mother bag.”
Yang in that moment puts his foot down and announces, “We have to tell you guys something so important, we have to sing it to you” — thoroughly scaring/”gagging” Ego Nwodim’s character.
The duet that follows, titled “No More Slay,” suggests that instead of trotting out the overused S-word, to simply say, “Wow, I like that!” or, “Heather, your dress looks nice.” It beseeches people to “flex” less and no longer put “feet on people’s necks.” And to go with a simple “good” or “bad” instead of “bae” and sus.”
Do you concur with the sentiment of “No More Slay,” and feel moved to dial back on such verbal tics yourself? Watch the video above, weigh in below, and grade this week’s SNL!
