Janelle Brown is mourning the loss of one of her family’s chickens.

“So yesterday, we discovered that we lost a chicken to a hawk,” the Sister Wives star, 55, announced via an Instagram Reel on Thursday, March 13. Janelle explained that her daughter Madison Brush (née Brown), 29, has a small “cute little flock” in her backyard.

“They don't have names — because I know better — and so do they,” she said of Madison's flock.

“They're pretty, they're really well taken care of,” Janelle continued. “They're well protected. There's these trees that keep the aerial predators out, but this one loves to get out — or did love to get out — and wander in the backyard.”

Janelle continued by saying they "discovered" the chicken on Wednesday morning, March 12. “I'm just kind of sad. I'm like, ‘Okay, so this is the reality of my life now, keeping animals.’ ”

“I know everybody has been so surprised that [Madison’s family] haven't lost more chickens than they have, because chickens are susceptible to the predators. But a hawk got her. Yeah, it’s just kind of like, ‘Okay, this is my life now. This is my life.’ ”

“You love them, you take care of them, but sometimes those things happen,” she said before concluding with a message to herself: “So, welcome to agriculture Janelle.”

“RIP little hen 🐓,” she captioned the Instagram Reel.

Janelle’s post follows her December 2024 Instagram Reel in which she revealed she was putting down “some permanent roots” with a new home in North Carolina.

She made the move from Flagstaff, Ariz., after purchasing a North Carolina property close to Madison’s home, per Collider. The move also follows her December 2022 split from ex-husband Kody Brown. The pair were together for close to three decades.

Janelle was Kody’s second wife in their plural marriage after Meri Brown. Fellow sister wives Christine and Robyn later joined, though he’s now only married to his fourth wife, Robyn.
