The Shortest Amount of Time You Need to Cycle to See Results, According to Peloton Instructor Emma Lovewell

If "get more exercise" is on the top of your 2025 to-do list, we're going to guess it's not just for the purpose of weight loss or getting six-pack abs. Regular exercise is correlated with improved mental health, more energy, lower chronic disease risk and a longer life.

The only problem? Sometimes, exercise can feel intimidating. Maybe you can't imagine working out for 30 minutes a day, or you just don't have time. This is a struggle Peloton instructor Emma Lovewell knows all too well, especially as a new mom. But Lovewell promises you don't have to work out for very long to get the benefits of exercise.

The Shortest Amount of Time You Need to Cycle to See Results

Good news for anyone who is intimidated by exercise or has difficulty fitting in a workout: "You can get benefits in 10 minutes or less," Lovewell told Parade at a breakfast with Siggi's to celebrate her recent partnership with the high-protein yogurt brand.

"Any movement is better than zero movement," Lovewell added. "Any time you’re moving you’re getting more movement in than a person who’s sitting on the couch. And so I love telling people just to start small. I teach strength classes and dance cardio classes that are five or 10 minutes. The hardest part is just starting. If you start and you feel great, you might keep going.”

The Longevity Tip Her 107-Year-Old Grandmother Swore By

100 is the longevity goal many of us reach for, and Lovewell's grandmother achieved that and more: She passed away just shy of her 107th birthday. And Lovewell attributed that to the amount of time she spent around other people, specifically her family. "She was always around family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I think this helped her have a purpose. Plus, movement was naturally built into her life because she was always around children."

While Lovewell's grandmother didn't garden, she's very pro gardening as a way to live longer. "I've read up a lot on longevity and the Blue Zones, and I think gardening is so great because it's a perfect low-impact, hands-in-nature, feet-on-the-ground activity. My mom gardens, and that’s something I think is very beneficial and rewarding."

The Mantra Lovewell Is Living By This Year

"Do less and progress." This also happens to be her mantra as Siggi's Chief Live Well Officeskyr (get it?)."Less is more. Sometimes more is more, but sometimes that's a very destructive way to think, and you’re distracting yourself from something else and filling in these voids with more stuff. I think by getting back to the basics of paring down and looking at what you need and what makes you feel good, you can layer on from there, but sometimes too much is just too much.”

Another thing Lovewell is aiming to do this year? “I want to try to get a little bit more scheduled with doing the same thing at the same time," she told Parade. "I think that’s going to help with having a baby, just getting my mornings down so they feel a little bit better. I'm craving routine since I have an unpredictable child, so I want to set my foundation. I want to wake up at 6:30 every morning and do a little bit of movement before 10 a.m. That's my goal.”
