Sharon Stone Reveals Unexpected Family Link to Royalty
Sharon Stone "feels particularly good" after finding out that she has royal blood in her veins.
The actress recently appeared on the TV series Finding Your Roots, which looks at the ancestry of celebrities to find any interesting relatives or historical information.
During her appearance on the show, Stone got an impressive surprise when host Henry Louis Gates Jr. revealed that, not only is she related to European royalty, but she's related to none other than Charlemagne, who was crowned emperor of the Holy Roman Empire in 800 CE and reigned until his death in 814 CE.
In a clip from the series, Stone turns the page in a book to see a grand portrait of Charlemagne, saying, "Oh, no! What's his name?"
Gates said, "Charlemagne," shocking Stone, who sat with her mouth wide open in surprise as the host added, "Charlemagne is your 38th great-grandfather."
"He's one of the most important people in history, of course. And he basically created modern Europe with an iron will," Gates described the historical figure. The show shared that Stone is related to two French kings as well.
Stone shared her honest reaction to the revelations, saying, "Well if you want to see someone whose mind is completely blown, here it is."
The Casino actress further opened up about her feelings in a recent interview with Us Weekly, saying, "I think it feels particularly good, particularly because my royal lines go through France."
Stone went on, highlighting her personal connection to France as she said, "[It] is the place that’s very dear to my heart. It’s, like, a second home to my home. All the princes and princesses through Burgundy were my relatives. That’s really beautiful and it’s really touching."
