‘Shaking It Up: The Life & Times of Liz Carpenter’ About Pioneering White House Aide to Premiere on Public TV in March (EXCLUSIVE)
In tandem with Women’s History Month, the documentary “The Life & Times of Liz Carpenter” will premiere on public television stations in March. It will also stream on PBS.org and on the PBS app.
Directed by Peabody award-winner Abby Ginzberg and Liz’s daughter, Christy Carpenter, this hour-long documentary tells the story of Liz Carpenter, an inspiring journalist, high-ranking White House aide and women’s rights leader.

Liz Carpenter worked as chief of staff and press secretary to First Lady Johnson and went on to co-found the National Women’s Political Caucus, where she campaigned for female candidates. She also co-chaired ERAmerica and led the battle for state ratification of the equal rights amendment.
The documentary features interviews with Gloria Steinem, Dan Rather, Bill Moyers, Douglas Brinkley, former congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson and Lyndon B. Johnson’s daughters Luci Baines Johnson and Lynda Johnson Robb. Home movies not previously seen by the public are also included.

The documentary previously played as an official selection at SXSW, DOC NYC, DC/Dox, Virginia Film Festival, Dallas International Film Festival, DocLands and Woods Hole Film Festival. It won awards at the Hill Country Film Festival and Toronto International Women Film Festival.
Anastasia P. Vournas served as executive producer while Jessica Brannon-Wranosky and Joan Douglas Murray were associate producers.
