‘Sex and the City’s’ Kristin Davis: ‘Very Successful’ Actor Conned Me Out of $5K

Sex and the City star Kristin Davis revealed she made the “horrible mistake” of lending $5,000 to an old boyfriend who was an “out-of-work actor” at the time but is “now very successful.”

Davis shared her story in an episode of her podcast Are You A Charlotte? “At the time, I had money because I’d been working, and I was at his house and he had all of these, ‘your electricity’s gonna be turned off,’ like all those notices that you get when you can’t pay your bills. They were all just all over his house,” Davis told her guest and former co-star Sarah Wynter.

She wouldn’t, however, name the actor.

“I think this was before Sex and the City, maybe between Melrose [Place] and Sex and the City, or maybe when I was on Melrose,” Davis recalled. She was on Melrose from 1992 to 1995 and SATC from 1998 to 2004. Davis has been romantically linked to Alec Baldwin, who was famous at the time (along with writer-director Aaron Sorkin), but the rest of her dating history remains a mystery. She has never been married.

All Davis would offer in the way of identifying her mystery ex-beau is that he “was very talented,” despite struggling to make a living at acting at the time. “I think he wrecked his motorcycle, which is like how he got around town to his auditions. And I was like, ‘Can I lend you some money?’” she said, which she would eventually come to regret, especially as the pair had what she called “a casual thing.”

Lending him the cash “changed the dynamic” of their relationship “in a really horrible way,” she explained. “I probably should’ve known better. But I just felt like, ‘I can help. I should help this guy. He’s so talented,’— which he is. I lend him money. I think it was all of $5,000. So I lent him this money and then he stops calling. I’m like, ‘What the heck?’” Davis said she eventually went over to his apartment, but even then she was sure he was avoiding her.

As she was “banging on the door,” she had a feeling he was inside but not answering. She recalled thinking, “‘Is he in there and pretending that he is not in there?’”

Later, when she finally got a call back, she said she felt “embarrassed” that she’d gone over. “He called me and was like, ‘Did you come to my house and bang on my door?’ And I was like, ‘Well, yes,’” she said, rehashing the conversation. “I felt so embarrassed, like I was being messy.” She ultimately never got her money back—and never heard from him again, even after he became “very successful.” Davis admitted the ordeal wasn’t the “last time” she’d lent a guy she was dating money: “I think the next time was the last time.”

“I just would love some acknowledgment or whatever, which is kind of a fantasy,” she said, before offering another small clue about who it could be. She told Wynter she wouldn’t go seeking the “acknowledgement” she’d like, since “He lives out in the country with some children.” She added, “I don’t think I want to show up there.”
