Sex and the City star Willie Garson dies aged 57

Willie Garson, best known for playing Stanford Blatch on Sex and the City, has passed away at the age of 57.

Lost actor Titus Welliver announced the sad news with a post on Twitter, writing: “There are no words. I love you dear brother. We are fewer.”

Willie’s 20-year-old son Nathen shared a loving tribute to his father on Instagram shortly after, describing him as the “funniest and smartest person” he’s known.

“I love you so much papa,” he captioned his gallery of photos.

“Rest In Peace and I’m so glad you got to share all your adventures with me and were able to accomplish so much. I’m so proud of you.”

“I will always love you, but I think it’s time for you to go on an adventure of your own. You’ll always be with me. Love you more than you will ever know and I’m glad you can be at peace now.

“You always were the toughest and funniest and smartest person I’ve known. I’m glad you shared your love with me. I’ll never forget it or lose it.”

Willie’s Sex and the City co-star and on-screen husband Mario Cantone has also taken to social media following the news.

“I couldn’t have had a more brilliant TV partner,” he wrote. “I’m devastated and just overwhelmed with sadness. Taken away from all of us way soon. You were a gift from the gods, sweet Willie. I love you.”

TMZ reports that Willie had been battling cancer while People claims that he died following a “short illness”, although his cause of death is yet to be confirmed.

As well as appearing as Carrie Bradshaw’s BFF in the Sex and the City series and both movies, Willie was also set to star in the upcoming revival, And Just Like That. He was spotted during filming last month according to gossip guru Deuxmoi.

The 57-year-old appeared in over 300 episodes of television, including the Hawaii Five-0 reboot and White Collar, and more than 70 films, such as Freaky Friday and There’s Something About Mary.

He last posted on social media on September 5, tweeting: “Be kind to each other… Always. Love to all. Approach kindness.”
