Severance Recap: Everything You Need to Remember Ahead of Season 2
Haven’t found the time to rewatch Severance Season 1? Worried you’ll be lost once Season 2 starts streaming after three long years? That’s where TVLine comes in!
In the acclaimed Apple TV+ drama’s Season 1 finale, which was released in April 2022, Lumon wonks Mark S., Helly R., Irving B. and Dylan G. came to realize that by sneakily seizing access to the Overtime Contingency Protocol, they could insert themselves in their “outie” lives. It fell on Dylan to keep the OCP switch flipped in the security room, while his coworkers took stock of their outside existences.
More from TVLine
We learned that Helly’s Helena Eagan is the daughter of Lumon CEO Jame Eagan, and had undergone severance as a demonstration of support for the controversial procedure; Irving Bailiff pored over (suspicious) stacks of intel on Lumon employees to find out where workplace soulmate Burt lived (with another man); and Mark S. was dealt two whammies — that boss lady Harmon Cobel is Mark Scout’s neighbor, Mrs. Selvig, and that Lumon wellness counselor Miss Casey is Mark’s “dead” wife Gemma!
TVLine’s Claire Franken breaks all that down (and so much more) in the following recap, which tackles all of Season 1’s major developments (and lingering questions) in less than seven minutes:
Premiering Friday, Jan. 17, Season 2 of Severance will see “Mark and his friends learn the dire consequences of trifling with the severance barrier, leading them further down a path of woe,” per the official description. (Watch Season 2 preview and read TVLine’s “A” review.)
Returning cast members include Adam Scott (Mark), Patricia Arquette (Cobel), Britt Lower (Helly), Tramell Tillman (Milchick), Zach Cherry (Dylan), Jen Tullock (Devon), Michael Chernus (Ricken), Dichen Lachman (Gemma/Miss Casey), John Turturro (Irving) and Christopher Walken (Burt). Joining them are new additions Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones) and John Noble (Fringe), along with Alia Shawkat (Search Party), Stefano Carannante (Blue Bloods) and Bob Balaban (The Chair), who play rival macrodata refiners at Lumon.
