Few phrases bring to mind the glitz and glamour of Hollywood quite like the words "Sunset Boulevard." You may think of the 1950 noir classic about an aging actress. You may think of the iconic street itself. And now, you might also think of Hollywood It couple, Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco—because they just released their latest track titled, "Sunset Blvd", inspired by their first date.

The accompanying music video features a nostalgic aesthetic and retro filter suggesting the kind of old Hollywood glamour that the name of the song likely evokes. Throughout the video, Gomez, with a voluminous curly blowout and bold red lip, gazes dreamily out of a window and meanders around an L.A. home wearing a number of retro lingerie pieces—a black sheer lace robe paired with a silky slip, both from Victoria's Secret, as well as sheer black stockings and black heels; a black lace bra under a silk white button-up; a red corset bustier under another white shirt,

Eventually, Blanco also appears in the video in a white suit. Gomez is shown as a giant, smiling and laughing at the pint-sized Blanco—perhaps a nod to her larger-than-life celebrity. It also might be a nod to the song's lyrics: "I can't wait to hold it, to hold that / Big, big / Hard heart / With open arms / Holding you naked, middle of Sunset Boulevard / Making you famous."

A few days before the song dropped, Gomez wrote on Instagram, "Our first date was on Sunset Blvd, and it’s also the title of our next song together." When the song dropped, she added, "Sunset Blvd will always be a special place to us."

"Sunset Blvd" is the third single from the couple's joint album, I Said I Love You First, due to drop on March 21. Initially, the pair were hesitant about collaborating. "We said at the beginning, 'If this ever is weird, we cancel it fucking immediately,' Blanco said to Interview Magazine. "Because we knew what we had was so important."

Added Gomez, "I definitely didn’t feel any sort of pressure. I was maybe just nervous with jitters in the beginning, and then slowly but surely it was happening and it sort of fell into place with a lot of hard work and love."

The pair have been an official couple since 2023, although they had met ten years earlier as music collaborators. Their first date, which inspired their latest song, came about after Gomez began to develop romantic feelings for Blanco. As he told Interview, he didn't even realise it was a date at first. However, as soon as they did start dating, he knew she was the one. "The second we started hanging out, I was like, ‘This is my wife,’" he said. "I was telling my mom, ‘This is the girl I’m going to marry.’ She’s my best friend.”

The pair announced their engagement last December. Gomez later revealed that Blanco had proposed with a personal Taco Bell-themed picnic on a soundstage, though there are some details about the proposal that Gomez is keeping private. "That I want to save for our kids," she said, adding simply, "It was really sweet and the right things were said."
