See the Golden Buzzer Act that Simon Cowell Says Is 'One of the Funniest People' Ever

As America’s Got Talent kicks off its 19th season, a standup comic has never won the talent competition. Yes, Terry Fator, Paul Zerdin and Darci Lynne were funny, and they won, but in reality, they were ventriloquists who had some help from their puppets.

But tonight, 31-year-old Learnmore from Zimbabwe, who now lives in Pittsburgh, demonstrated that he may be the first comedian to win the title with his act, which compared life in his small village in Zimbabwe to life in America.

When he was done, Simon Cowell told him, “I actually think you’re one of the funniest people we’ve had over the years,” and host Terry Crews used one of his Golden Buzzers for Learnmore. [This season the judges and Terry have more than one Golden Buzzer.]

Before he performed, Learnmore told Simon, “I used to watch this show with my grandmother and she used to say, “I see you on this show, Learnmore.’ I would learn English from watching standup comedy with my grandfather, too.”

The good news for Learnmore is he will go straight to the Live Shows, the bad news for America is that we won’t get to see him perform again until then.

“We are so glad you’re here,” Howie Mandel told him. “Standup comedy is so hard as it is but to come from another country where English isn’t even your first language, not only did you communicate with everybody but tickled everybody, made everybody laugh, you are truly amazing.”

Heidi Klum said, “You’re funny, you look great, I love your spirit, your accent, the whole package.”

And Sofia Vergara added, “I think you were good from top to bottom. This is the most fun time we’ve had today.”

In addition to Simon telling Learnmore that he’s one of the funniest people on AGT over the years, he said, “If you’ve got it, you’ve got it. I was laughing so much. You were having the best time as well. You are now stuck with us. You’re not going anywhere.”

Then it was time for the vote. There was no doubt how it was going to go. Howie had voted yes and Heidi had raised her hand to say yes when Terry stopped her saying, ‘Hold up,’ and walked off stage.

Standing over the Golden Buzzer, Terry said, “Learnmore, backstage you were telling me you were taking 14-hour bus trips to go perform for 5 minutes and then take 14-hour bus trips back home. Brother, you will never have to go back home again because you are here with us.”

So, saying, Terry hit the Golden Buzzer and sent Learnmore straight to the Live Shows.

America’s Got Talent airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. Next day on Peacock.
