Scarlett Johansson is staying unplugged.

The actress, 40, told InStyle that she declined to join social media after being asked to do so by Universal Pictures to help promote the release of her upcoming movie Jurassic World Rebirth.

"I mean, even today, I got an email from Universal, and they're like, 'Hey, would you consider joining Instagram in tandem with the release of Jurassic World: Rebirth?' " she told the outlet.

Johansson continued, "[I] get a lot of pressure to join social media," adding that it makes her wonder, "Is there a way I could do this and stay true to who I am? It didn't feel like I could."

The Marvel alum said she avoids social media, in part, because she does not want to pretend to like it.

"The work that I put out there is all based in truth. That's the key ingredient. So if I was a person who really enjoyed social media, then I could totally get on the bandwagon," she said. "But I'm not. And I think the film will do fine."

Elsewhere in the interview with InStyle, Johansson acknowledged that she is one of the few celebrities who have their own beauty brand, The Outset, despite not having a social media presence. She mentioned that she had been previously pressured by her co-founder Kate Foster, no longer with the company, to join Instagram.

"I got close enough to talk to my therapist about it. I was like, I guess this is something I need to do. But it goes against my core values," she said. "I think it was more about: How do I express that too? Because there's so much expectation from...."

Still, she makes the occasional appearance on the beauty brand’s Instagram account, explaining that it’s "minimally invasive."

In April 2023, the Black Widow star discussed her absence from social media on an episode of The Skinny Confidential Him & Her podcast.

"I honestly am too fragile of a person to have social media," she said. "My ego is too fragile. I can't deal with it. My brain is too fragile, I'm like a delicate flower. I have enough anxiety."

At the time, Johansson admitted that she experimented with the idea of joining Instagram, and was even on the app "once for three days," but then deleted it after looking at someone else's posts.

"When I started realizing that I'd spent 20 minutes looking at somebody's Instagram page who worked for a friend of mine — I now know you have a pit bull, two daughters, and live in Burbank — I was like, I just wasted 17 minutes of time," she said. "I now feel like I should move to California, get this specific dog and change my life in all these ways."

"I felt so bad, like I was missing out on this random person's life," she added. "I can't do this. I'm too fragile, I have so much anxiety about other things."
