Sarah Michelle Gellar Has an Unexpected Reaction to Seeing Her Former “Buffy ”Enemies Reunite

It looks like Buffy has buried the hatchet — or stake, as it were — with the villainous Trio.
On Sept. 10, Buffy the Vampire Slayer alumni Tom Lenk, Adam Busch and Danny Strong posted a group photo on Instagram to the delight of fans and none other than costar Sarah Michelle Gellar. The actors played demonologist Andrew Wells (Lenk), mad scientist Warren Mears (Busch) and sorcerer Jonathan Levinson (Strong), a.k.a. the Trio, in the beloved series, and became Buffy’s primary antagonists in season 6.
More than two decades after their characters tried to take over Sunnydale, however, there are no hard feelings between the actors and their onscreen nemesis. After Lenk urged fans to “Caption this photo” in a comment, Gellar replied: “Three people I adore.”
Strong returned the love by posting “[Hear emoji] U TOO!!!” while Lenk responded with four kissy-face emojis.
Castle star Nathan Fillion, who appeared in a five-episode arc as serial killer/priest Caleb in Buffy’s final season, also tried his hand at captioning the pic.
“This was the last known sighting of Evelyn,” he wrote, noting a woman who can be seen in the background of the photo between Lenk and Busch. “If you have any information regarding her whereabouts, please call 1-800-HEY ITS THOSE GUYS FROM BUFFY I LOVE THEM.”

Since appearing in the series, Lenk, Strong and Busch have all continued to work steadily in film and TV. Busch had a main role in TBS’s Men at Work from 2012 to 2014 and has appeared in Grey’s Anatomy, NCIS, Major Crimes and other shows. Strong took on roles in Mad Men, Girls, Justified and Billions among others. Lenk, meanwhile, starred in Buffy creator Joss Whedon’s 2012 adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing and has since appeared in HBO’s Room 104, NCIS: Hawai’i, Batwoman and the first season of FX’s American Horror Story.
Gellar, meanwhile, has had several Buffy reunions of her own in recent years. In January 2023, the actress posed for a photo with James Marsters, who played vampire bad boy Spike, at the premiere of her Paramount+ show Wolf Pack. Then last September, Gellar hung out with Seth Green and Emma Caulfield, who played werewolf Oz and reformed demon Anya in the series, respectively, at an Ed Sheeran concert.

In 2022, Gellar marked the 25th anniversary of Buffy's premiere with a sweet Instagram post, crediting its success to its legions of devoted fans.
"25 years ago today I had the honor to introduce the world to my version of Buffy Anne Summers. It was an uphill battle," she wrote. "A mid season replacement, on a new network based on a movie, that was by no means a giant success. But then there was you. The fans. You believed in us. You made this happen. You are the reason 25 years later we are still celebrating. So today we celebrate you as well.”
