Sara and Hayden win The Block and announce baby news

They’ve been the most dramatic duo on The Block this year with plenty of tears and even threats to walk away from the renovation show.

But Sara and Hayden Vale have miraculously managed to come out on top, landing a whopping $645,000 in a shock auction result that aired during Sunday night’s finale.

What’s more, the couple have double the reason to celebrate as they’ve revealed they’re expecting their second child, a baby boy due in April.

Sara and Hayden were one of five teams that rejuvenated Melbourne’s Gatwick Hotel, and the couple’s apartment sold for $3.02 million, leaving them with $645,000 in prize money.

Behind them were Kerrie and Spence whose apartment sold for $2.85 million, landing them a profit of $415,000.

Meanwhile Courtney and Hans finished in third place, with their apartment selling for $2.77 million, leaving them with a profit of $410,000 to walk away with.

Reactions

Of course Sara and Hayden are absolutely over the moon with their result, but not everyone is as stoked.

Social media has gone into a frenzy over the shock finale, with many viewers disappointed with the shock outcome given Sara and Hayden’s ‘attitude’ throughout the series, and the fact the judges weren’t big fans of their renovations throughout the show.

“Hayden & Sara winning the block is deflating to say the least – possibly understatement of the year #9TheBlock,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“How the eff did Hayden and Sara win the @TheBlock im happy that everyone made some cash but these guys r not the worthiest winners,” tweeted another.

Despite the online backlash, it seems Sara and Hayden are the ones getting the last laugh, along with the producers of the show who’ve announced The Block will return in 2019.

Hosts Scott Cam and Shelley Craft look forward to another season of Blockheads picking up their hammers and getting down to business at the historic Oslo Hotel in St Kilda next year.
