Sam Nivola Just Shared a Sneaky 'White Lotus' Finale Spoiler About Lochlan's Fate
"Hopefully this isn't a spoiler..."

Sam NivolaWell, our stay at The White Lotus is coming to an end. Only one episode remains, and we still have so many questions. Can Parker Posey's accent get any wilder? Will the three friends ever speak again after the holiday from hell? Is Saxon... okay? What's with all the monkeys? And, most importantly, whose body is in the pond? Of course, we'll have to wait until Sunday to get our answers—but Sam Nivola just teased one little detail about the end of Lochlan's story.

Speaking to GoldDerby following last night's penultimate episode, Nivola revealed that Lochlan's ending isn't exactly what he'd call "satisfying." "It's definitely not satisfying for the character, but it is satisfying for me as a consumer of art to see," he said. Although Nivola originally thought all of the characters undergo some kind of transformation at the White Lotus, this can't exactly be said for Lochlan. "When I first spoke to Mike [White, show creator] after having read the scripts, I was like, 'My understanding was when a character leaves the White Lotus, they're a totally different person—you change in some way, for better or for worse. Is that what the hotel does to you?' He was like, 'No, no, because that's unrealistic. Like, sure that happens to some people, but some people never change or some people might change later but one week in a hotel isn't enough to do it.' That was one of the many smart tidbits he told me that just made me so, so honored to be in his presence."

Nivola then shared one detail about what's coming for Lochlan. "Hopefully this isn't a spoiler—it's more of an emotional thing—but Lochlan kind of winds up where he started. He doesn't grow as much as he would have liked to have grown. I think that's realistic and sort of devastating."

Of course, it's pretty hard to imagine Lochlan ending up exactly where he started. After all, he's been on quite the journey. The youngest Ratliff child, Lochlan began his week at the White Lotus feeling like the black sheep of the family. In an attempt to impress his older brother Saxon, Lochlan ends up in an already-infamous incestuous threesome with his brother and Charlotte Le Bon's Chloe. In last week's episode, he turned to his sister, Piper, and expressed a wish to stay at the monastery in Thailand with her. But by the sounds of things, Lochlan might just be heading back home in exactly as confused as he was when it all began. Or, if he does end up staying (alive or, as Belinda would say, in a bodybag), he won't have done a whole lot of growth. But, of course, we'll have to wait and see.
