Yahoo Lifestyle Sam Heughan Recalls Shooting a Sexy Yet 'Freezing' Rain Scene for 'The Couple Next Door': 'I Had to Man Up' (Exclusive)
Outlander star Sam Heughen is bringing the heat to a new Starz show, The Couple Next Door, a six-episode limited series in which he plays one-half of a married couple that starts swinging with their new neighbors in upscale suburbia.
"It's kind of a morality tale more than anything," Heughen exclusively tells Parade.
The series open with a new couple moving next door to Heughen's Danny, a traffic cop, and his yoga instructor wife, Becka (Jessica De Gouw), and by the end of the premiere, Danny finds himself in a passionate, rain-soaked embrace with his neighbor Evie (Eleanor Tomlinson).
"There's this stylized sequence at the end of the first episode, which we then later find out is actually a kind of part of Evie's fantasy, her dream," Heughan explains.
"But we shot this on a night shoot, you know, at four in the morning with this huge rain bar to make us really drenched."
The hot Scot is loathe to "complain" about the scene, however, because his costar "didn't even make a sound, and she was wearing much less than I was."
"I had to man up and pretend that it was all fine," he says. "But it was freezing cold. Too cold."

Thankfully, they were shooting on a real street in the Netherlands, and the the residents there let the cast use their homes to get warm.
Overall, Heughan tells Parade, "It was such a joy to shoot this [show]. We were filming in Belgium and the Netherlands, and we were with a very small crew there ... There were no real trailers." The cast and crew ate lunch together often and hung out when they weren't shooting, he adds. "There was a real bond formed."
New episodes of The Couple Next Door will premiere at midnight ET on the STARZ app, all STARZ streaming and on-demand platforms each Friday. On linear broadcast, it will debut on STARZ tonight at 9 p.m. ET in the U.S.
