Sabrina Carpenter Trades Barry Keoghan for Dolly Parton in New Music Video
Remember when Sabrina Carpenter sang, "If you don't wanna cry to my music, don't make me hate you prolifically"? Well...can't say she didn't warn ya! The pop star made a playful reference to her ex, Barry Keoghan, in the music video for her newly released "Please Please Please (ft. Dolly Parton)"—the first single off her Short 'n Sweet Deluxe album. And, just as she prophesied, it definitely looks like she's getting the last laugh in the relationship.
Sabrina's country take on her hit single featuring the iconic Dolly dropped on February 14—just in times for Valentine's Day—but romance definitely doesn't come to mind when you watch it. The music video is a pseudo-continuation to the story told in the original "Please Please Please" video, which starred Sabrina's then-boyfriend Barry as her criminal lover. Only this time, it's Sabrina who seems to be running from the law with Dolly by her side.
At first, it's unclear what Dolly and Sabrina are guilty of (though the black-and-white coloring—as well as blink-and-you'll-miss-them references to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Frank and Jesse James, and Thelma and Louise—make it clear they're a pair on the run). However, it's eventually revealed towards the end of the video that they have a body in the bed of the pickup truck they've been driving. A very...familiar body.
they fucking killed the guy from the previous please please please music video LMAO pic.twitter.com/H9xRvNBYR9

Though they don't show his face, the man tied up in the back of the truck appears to be wearing exactly the same outfit Barry was wearing at the end of the original video, when Sabrina tied him up and put duct tape over his mouth. Coincidence? Definitely not!
Neither Sabrina nor Barry have addressed their breakup publicly since news broke in December. Rumors initially circulated claiming that Barry had cheated, which led to fan backlash so severe the actor had to deactivate his Instagram and take a break from social media, citing online harassment.
Now, it seems Sabrina is putting the final nail in the coffin, declaring their onscreen romance dead and buried—and by Dolly, no less! But don't feel too bad for the guy. Being fictionally killed by Sabrina Carpenter and Dolly Parton doesn't sound so bad. In fact, I'd say this version of "Please Please Please" sounds pretty amazing.
