“RuPaul's Drag Race” season 17's Southern belle Sam Star reveals drag mom Trinity The Tuck's NSFW advice for the show
Sam tells EW that the "All Stars 4" winner had a very specific bit of advice for Sam's... uh... bits before heading off to film season 17.
Trinity The Tuck’s drag daughter proclaiming herself to be an “attention whore” who’s ready for her close-up? Groundbreaking.
While it’s no surprise that Sam Star, perhaps the most Southern-fried girl of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 17, hasn’t fallen far from the tree with regards to her spotlight-stealing drag mama, she might have other shocking developments hidden up her skirt.
“[Trinity] said, ‘Under no circumstances let your balls pop out!’” Sam tells Entertainment Weekly of the advice her doting mother gave her before she headed off to California to film her Drag Race debut. “America, you’ll have to tune in to see if my balls did in fact pop out, okay?”
While fans wait in steamy suspense to see, uh, that — and a package of a different kind on the runway, which Trinity helped her make — Sam says they should expect to be thoroughly entertained in the meantime.
A seasoned pageant girl who even battled for a title on the Love for the Arts reality show, Sam has known her star is destined for greatness for years. Reared on ruthless stages as a former competitive cheerleader, Sam says she’s “definitely cutthroat,” but never loses sight of the real reason she fell in love with the craft in the first place.
To the theatrical actress who once starred in a production of Kinky Boots, “fun” means weaponizing her (almost) BFA: “She’s the BFA weaponizer that dropped out, okay? I went to school for musical theater at University of Alabama,” Sam confirms, noting that she loves musical theater, but left when she realized she’d have to drop “$2,000 for textbooks” to further her education.
So, she moved back home, where she listened to her heart and honed her artistry on local stages as a drag entertainer.

Now, Sam says viewers will get to know her not only through her eccentric energy in the Werk Room, but also through her off-kilter approach to fashion on the runway.

“Extravagant, over-the-top, pageantry-inspired, but with a twist,” she says of her looks this season. “Lots of references, but also not referencing.”
And maybe — just maybe — a ball (or two) for good measure.
