Royal souvenirs for Queen’s Platinum Jubilee feature awkward misprint

Thousands of plates, mugs and tea sets marking Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee are currently being sold on a clearance website after manufacturers failed to spot an embarrassing misprint.

The royal memorabilia features a glaring spelling error in the word Jubilee, which instead reads as ‘Jubbly’ on various items.

The collection features a painted image of Her Majesty alongside the words ‘To commemorate the Platinum Jubbly of Queen Elizabeth II’.

Following the mistake from a Chinese manufacturing company, who produced 10,800 items to celebrate the Queen’s 70-year reign, stock clearance supplier Wholesale Clearance UK has started selling the royal souvenirs on their website.

Their online listing reads: “The manufacturers produced some wonderful souvenir items in an attempt to muscle in on the Queen's upcoming Platinum Jubilee but were left high and dry when their fulfilment partner in the UK decided they would not take the souvenir stock due to a translation error.”

The store is also hoping the merchandise attracts fans of the long-running British sitcom Only Fools and Horses, which featured a character named Del Boy who has the catchphrase “lovely jubbly”.

“If you are a fan of the Queen and Del Boy… Two birds with one stone!” the website description continues, adding that buyers could also “take up plate spinning as a hobby”.

The entire set is currently being sold for around $5 AUD per item, with Wholesome Clearance suggesting that the collection could earn a potential profit of over $552,000 AUD.

The incident comes shortly after reports emerged suggesting that the Queen has officially 'ordered' Prince William and Prince Harry to make peace ahead of her Platinum Jubilee.

“She's tired of waiting for everyone to sort out their own messes and is personally intervening in everything,” a royal insider told Woman's Day.

“The brothers' relationship broke the moment William urged Harry to take his time to get to know Meghan and not rush into anything. As we've seen, Harry's hackles have been raised ever since.

“But the Queen has personally ordered – that's ordered, not requested – for this nonsense between them to stop.”
