Royal fans confused over detail at Queen's vigil: 'Please explain'

Eagle-eyed royal fans were left confused on Saturday after spotting something odd about the Queen's youngest grandchild James, Viscount Severn's outfit during the vigil attended by Her Majesty's grandchildren.

The 14-year-old son of Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, wore two medals, similar to those worn by Prince William and Prince Harry on their military uniforms during the vigil.

"Why does the Queen’s 14-year-old grandson have medals?" a third wrote. "Genuine question. What has he got them for?"

And it seems the medals aren't military but were instead to commemorate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012 and her Platinum Jubilee this year.

The son of Princess Anne and the Queen's eldest grandchild Peter Phillips, 44, wore the same medals, along with the 2002 Golden Jubilee medal.

The stoic teenager lowered his head as emotional mourners paid their respects to his grandmother, with many saying it echoed images of William and Harry at their mother Princess Diana's funeral in 1997.

"Can’t help but notice that Prince Edward’s 14-year-old son James bears a very eerie resemblance to Prince William during Princess Diana’s funeral," one Twitter user wrote.

"The Queen’s youngest grandson, James, Viscount Severn, reminds me of Harry when Diana died," another wrote.

"Young James Viscount Severn looks so much like Prince William when he was of a similar age and having to go through so much pain publicly, such a brave young man," a third said.

"Bless all the royal grandchildren for that vigil," someone else added. "Especially the Wessex children: so young and not much in the spotlight, hope someone gave them a hug after. Couldn’t help thinking how much James Viscount Severn with his teen floppy hair looked like William at Diana’s funeral."
