Royal family’s surprising message to Meghan Markle on her birthday

Fans were shocked when a number of members of the royal family publicly shared well wishes for Meghan Markle’s birthday on Wednesday, which is their first public comment on the Duchess since her bombshell interview with Oprah in March.

It seems as though any ill-will between the two parties, especially after Prince Harry recently announced his surprising book deal, was put aside when Meghan turned 40.

Taking to Twitter, Queen Elizabeth’s official social media account, @royalfamily, shared a gallery of photos of Meghan, including one of her with the Queen.

“Wishing The Duchess of Sussex a very Happy Birthday today!” the post read alongside a red balloon emoji.

In a nearly identically tweet just a few minutes after, Harry’s father Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, also shared a tribute.

“Wishing The Duchess of Sussex a very happy 40th birthday,” they captioned a beaming photo of Meghan, also adding a red balloon emoji.

Prince William and Kate Middleton followed suit at the same time, sharing a solo photo of Meghan on Bondi Beach from her and Harry’s 2018 tour Down Under.

The caption was very similar again, reading: “Wishing a happy 40th birthday to The Duchess of Sussex!”

It hasn’t gone unnoticed that while all three accounts posted on Twitter, they only opted to share their celebratory messages to their Instagram stories, which only lasts 24 hours.

Last year, the three royal accounts each shared grid posts on Instagram for Meghan’s birthday, which are still uploaded today. The accounts also recently shared grid posts for Kate’s birthday in January, and Meghan and Harry’s son Archie’s birthday in May.

Another surprising addition to the outpour of well wishes for Meghan’s 40th was Hollywood A-lister Melissa McCarthy.

The 50-year-old shared a hilarious post online showing a video call between the pair, with Melissa trying to guess what Meghan was planning for her birthday.

Alongside suggestions of a “photoshoot under a tree looking peaceful”, “matching tattoos” and a “yacht party”, Melissa asked if Meghan was planning on doing a Suits reunion.

“I love Suits, but why would I do a Suits reunion for my birthday?” the Duchess of Sussex responded.

Meghan revealed that she was asking 40 of her friends to spend 40 minutes of their time “to help mentor a woman who’s mobilising back in the workforce”.

Prince Harry also made an unexpected cameo in the video when he was spotted outside the window juggling at the end of the video.
