Kate Middleton and Prince William have stepped out to publicly debut their brand new baby boy to the world.

Just seven hours after giving birth to her new son, the Duchess of Cambridge made an appearance on the steps of Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital with her new baby in her arms, and her proud husband by her side.

Beaming in a bright red dress, the new prince was wrapped in a GH Hurt and Son Ltd shawl.

Reports say the couple are already at home in Kensington Palace.

According to People, such short stays aren't uncommon in the UK, with new mums averaging a stay of a day and a half.

“The length of time a woman spends in hospital will vary depending on their needs,” Louise Silverton, the director for Midwifery at the Royal College of Midwives, told The Guardian.

“Midwives need to check to make sure women feel up to going home. However, provided the woman is medically fine, has the support she needs at home and the right postnatal care plan in place, and a good community midwife service, then going home even five or six hours after birth may be absolutely fine.”

Kate, 36, welcomed her new son at 11.01AM London time after a quick labour, with Kensington Palace announcing yesterday that the Duchess had been taken to the hospital in the early stages of labour before 6AM local time.

It was later announced that the couple had welcomed a boy, with excited siblings Prince George, four, and two-year-old Charlotte quickly visiting their new sibling.

Kate’s speedy exit from hospital keeps in tradition with her previous births – she left the hospital 10 hours after welcoming Princess Charlotte in 2015.
