Rick Harrison (right) and his son AdamFor Pawn Stars creator and star Rick Harrison, not a day goes by that he doesn't think of his late son, Adam Harrison, who died of an overdose last year at 39.
In an emotional interview on the latest episode of In Depth With Graham Bensinger, the reality TV personality opened up about mourning the loss of his son and wondering what more he could have done.
"I mean, I think I did everything right, but you just sit in your head. 'What if I did this? What if I did this?'" Harrison said. "You know, 'What if I just grabbed him and locked him in the back of my truck, drove him to Oregon, and put him… where he couldn't get [anything]? Like, you have a hundred things go through your mind. I mean, there is nothing worse than losing a kid."

Adam was not part of his father's show, which zooms in on the staff of the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop on the Las Vegas strip and their customers as they buy and sell invaluable merchandise. Pawn Stars does feature Corey Harrison, Adam's older brother, and featured their grandfather Richard "The Old Man" Harrison before his death in 2018. (Rick also has another son and three daughters.)
Speaking to journalist Graham Bensinger, Harrison said, "When you lose a kid, you second-guess f---ing everything. It's like, 'Could I have done this? Could I have done this? Could I have done this? Could I have done this?' It goes through your brain constantly."
He said he tried to give his son "tough love," but, "God, you just never see the OD coming."
"In his 20s, you know, he had the drug problems, and it just… I mean, God, I put him in rehab so many times," said Harrison, who thinks of his son on a daily basis. "And every time, he'd be doing great, and then it would just fall back. I mean, you've heard the same story from a million people. It got really, really bad and, apparently, it wasn't heroin he got. He ended up getting some fentanyl, killed him."

Harrison went as far as having his son arrested after he committed a break-in. "I figured, 'Maybe if we put him in jail for two months, it'll clean him out,'" he said. "But he went straight back on it."
The reality TV star struggled for words when asked his message for parents whose children are struggling with addiction.

"I don't know. It's hard," Harrison said. "There's no f---ing instruction book for kids. And they're all different models."
He perseveres through his grief by keeping his focus elsewhere. "I think about the good times, and think about, you know, my other kids," Harrison said. "My new grandbaby. My other kids. Got four grandkids. So yeah, keep on moving on."
