‘Redwood’ With Idina Menzel Sells Out First Two Previews; Jimmy Fallon Debuts Tonight In ‘All In’ – Broadway Box Office

The annual winter Broadway Week 2-for-1 ticket promotion – it’s actually several weeks, but no one’s complaining – arrived January 21, and as usual the promotion took a bite into grosses, with total attendance holding steady from the previous week but receipts dropping 11%.

In all, the 29 shows grosses $29,614,804, with total attendance at 246,230. Average ticket price for the week ending January 26 was $120.27, about $13 cheaper than the previous week.

Making a promising arrival was Redwood, the new musical starring Idina Menzel, the crowd-pleasing original star of Wicked and Rent. Directed by Tina Landau, the musical played two previews, selling out and grossing $397,117 at the Nederlander. Opening night is February 13.

In its official opening week, the Pulitzer Prize-winning English took in $264,480 for three previews and five regular performances, filling about 81% at the Todd Haimes. Last week’s good reviews could prompt an upturn in business.

The popular comedy Oh, Mary! saw a slight dip in attendance with the departure of original star Cole Escola, but just slight, dropping from its usual sell-out status to 98% of capacity. American Primeval‘s Betty Gilpin is in the lead for an eight-week run; the production grossed $926,002, a $327,869 drop from the previous week, likely a combination of Escola’s departure and the 2-for-1 promo.

The Outsiders canceled its Saturday matinee but still raked in $1,136,472 for the week, attendance SRO at 101%.

Also selling out were Romeo + Juliet ($967,398) and All In: Comedy About Love ($1,424,599), Simon Rich’s revolving cast production (last week was Lin-Manuel Miranda, Aidy Bryant, Nick Kroll and Andrew Rannells; Jimmy Fallon takes over for Rannells tonight).

Topping the box office chart last week was, once again, Wicked, taking in $2,415,881. Gypsy was at #2 with $1,781,714.

Season to date, Broadway, in the 36th week of the 2024-25 season, has grossed $1,232,792,072 up about 18% over last year at this time, with total attendance of 9,622,648 up 16%.

The Broadway Week promotion runs through February 9.
