Rebel Wilson's trainer Jono Castano slams 'lazy' Ozempic trend: 'Dangerous'

The celebrity trainer shares how he believes anyone can transform their body in 12 weeks.

Ozempic, a diabetes drug that began trending on TikTok for weight loss, has been slammed as "lazy" and "dangerous" by celebrity trainer Jono Castano, who has trained the likes of Rebel Wilson, Rita Ora, Sir Richard Branson and many more.

Jono, who owns ACERO gym in Sydney and recently launched his new workout app ACERO DRIP, spoke with Yahoo Lifestyle about the new trend which is causing global shortages of Ozempic, leaving diabetics without an essential drug.

Ozempic, which isn't a weight loss drug, can cause weight loss by making you feel full and suppressing your appetite.

"I feel like if you're, for example, using Ozempic, you're basically not intaking enough calories, so you're losing weight by, obviously, doing that," he said. "I think, for me personally, it's always going to be dangerous in terms of the long term as well. It's super dangerous, I think we just need to focus on that calorie baseline and creating a deficit and do it that way."

He added, "In the longterm, people get addicted to it, that's what happens as well, right? People get addicted to that."

When asked if he believed the Ozempic trend would be short-lived, Jono was quick to say he believes it the trend will be lasting.

"I don't think so, I think they're just going to keep making different versions of it, to be honest," he tells us. "I think it's always going to be around now. Especially because at the end of the day, people like see the results that other people are getting and people are lazy and then a lot of people are sheep you know, they follow what other people do without even knowing the side effects or consequences."

"People always want quick results, you know? And people are always searching for the thing that's going to get them [to their goal weight] as fast as possible," Jono tells us. "People are lazy and they don't want to put in the work."

Jono shares that he believes if people would focus on their calorie intake, their training and getting around 10,000 steps per day, they wouldn't even consider taking a drug like Ozempic.

While he stresses that this isn't what will work for everyone as everyone will be unique, Jono shared that his average female client will be put on around 1600-1800 calories if they were trying to lose weight, whereas his male clients will probably be sitting around 2000 calories.

Speaking of his famous 12-week transformations, Jono shared how he breaks things down to ensure his clients get the results they want.

"For me personally, I always love to break it down in terms of like, firstly: nutrition, so making sure your nutrition is on track, and you're getting all your macronutrients, so your protein, carbohydrates and fats. One thing I always say is, 'Eat to be satisfied, not to be full.'"

"Number two, is obviously your training, so making sure you're getting your #45daily, which I always talk about and I encourage everyone to just get out there, like today, I didn't go to the gym, but I'm going to go for a 45-minute walk," he adds.

"Number three would be making sure you're getting enough sleep, because sleep is recovery, so that's what I always say, if you can narrow down those three big components and in a 12-week period you're going to get great results."

Jono adds that it's not just about looking good aesthetically but also improving your mental health and how you feel inside.

And even if you can't make it to ACERO Gym in Sydney to be trained by Jono himself, the personal trainer has worked with AFL star Dustin Martin to create the fitness app ACERO DRIP, which features HIIT, strength, cardio, pilates, yoga and kickboxing workouts, as well as mindful sessions for your mental wellbeing.

Jono is joined by other trainers and athletes, including Chad Hurst, Alyna Rost, Lou West, Kat John, Matt and Will Hanson, and Natalie Idrizovic, to help create epic workout plans to match your needs.

The trainer tells us the app was three years in the making, as they didn't want to release anything that was similar to what was already out there in the fitness app space.

"This app is so intelligent that you can generate a new workout based on whatever equipment you have," he explains. "So say, for example, you've only got a pair of dumbbells, and you're in the Maldives, and you want a 30-minute programme that's going to be for three to five days, it can literally just give you a whole new programme every single time. So it's that clever."

He jokingly tells us it's part of ACERO's plan for world domination, allowing anyone around the world to follow his programmes for just $24.99 a month.
