Reba McEntire Shares Intense Personal Story in Honor of Milestone Birthday
Reba McEntire was born on March 28, 1955, which means this past month, the country icon celebrated her 70th birthday. As grateful as she is for the personal milestone, though, she’s even more grateful for her mama. To celebrate her big day, she let fans in on her birth story, and how thankful she is that her mom kept her after such chaos.
“The first thing I thought of this morning was I’m so glad Mama feels better today than she did 70 years ago,” Reba shared in the caption of a baby photo of herself on Instagram. “I’m also glad she kept me. I’m the third of four kids. In March of 1955, Alice was 3 and Pake was almost 2 years old. Being the rowdy mischievous kids they were, they had Mama so tired that when her water broke in the middle of the night, she changed her nightgown and went back to sleep!”
Reba went on to reveal that, eventually, the labor pains got more intense and her father insisted on driving her to the hospital.
“I was breach so the doctor had to turn me around and get me headed out in the right direction,” she continued. “I was a dry/breach birth with only gas to help Mama get through it. After all that, she kept me. So glad she did… Two and half years later, Susie was born and we became the Fearsome Foursome!!”
Looking back on that day and her childhood as a whole, Reba couldn’t help but beam about her family. “God blessed me with the best family and the best aunts, uncles, and cousins a kid could ever wish for,” she exclaimed. “And what a life He’s given me… I’m so grateful and thankful to God and my Angels for continuing to guide, direct, protect, and give me my marching orders.”
Fans of the country phenom were quick to comment on Reba’s nostalgic post and to remind her of just how special she is in their own lives.
“Happy Birthday GIRRRRRRLLLLL. I am so glad you were born! You have made my love more fun, full of adventures, laughter, music, happiness and friendship. I love you. I hope you are having the best day and I can't wait to celebrate with you,” Reba’s Happy’s Place co-star Melissa Peterman wrote. “Happy Birthday, Reba! I can’t believe you’re 70—you look like you’re 40,” someone else chimed in. “Happy Birthday, Mama Mac! Hope your birthday is filled with love and new memories,” another fan remarked.
Now, if only we could all age as gracefully as Ms. Reba McEntire herself!
